Those eagle eyed amongst you may have spotted the following Olivers Lighting advert in Period Ideas this month. We’ve been working on a new range of high quality lighting to complement our switches and sockets. As occasionally happens we’ve had a couple of delays with the supply of parts, and this has resulted in us falling a couple of weeks behind schedule.

This led me to the ‘bloggers’ shop, which I thought may be of interest to some of our customers.

Vintage Wants advertise themselves as selling ‘vintage homeware and shabby chic collectibles’.

Olivers Lighting are occasionally asked if it’s possible to supply intermediate  Bakelite switches. Sadly these aren’t available, but we can provide an alternative. If you have no choice but to fit an intermediate switch, we can provide the Standen switch finished in Antique Bronze, mounted onto a wooden pattress with the same dimensions as the Bakelite switch range. Due to the larger size of the Standen switch we’re unable to cut the decorative ring into the face of the pattress.

Following customer feedback through Olivers Lighting’s on-line shop, I’m happy to announce that PayPal is now available as a payment method on-line.

Upon completion of payment with PayPal, please use the button provided by PayPal to return to our shop for a printable receipt page. Failure to complete this final step will not affect your order.

When placing an order on Olivers Lighting’s on-line shop, our customers are presented with the option to provide additional information on why they are placing their order with Olivers Lighting Company  and ways with which they feel we can improve our on-line shop. Thankfully we don’t receive negative feedback (a dangerous admission) but following is the main body of comments from the last couple of months.

Constructive criticism:

1. “The repeat of quantities is confusing on the shopping cart page.”
This was indeed confusing and has been fixed. The shopping cart and the confirmation email now only display one quantity for each individual product and not it’s associated choices etc.

2. “Make it (the shop) a bit more intuitive. If there had been a small picture with the range name, it would have been more helpful, and nothing would be missed by not investigating further.”
A list of products and their associated images can be found on the on-line shop by using the menu button ‘product list‘.

3. “Be upfront on delivery cost.”
The software we used to build the shop only adds postage when a customer confirms their order prior to payment. This is mainly designed for shops that price per weight/quantity and need all quantity information prior to postage costs being calculated. We however have a standard price of £5.00 per order, but the shop will again only add this once the order is confirmed, prior to payment.

Always read the Terms & Conditions of any on-line shop prior to purchase, especially if you haven’t used them before. Under our terms & conditions you will find the following information – All UK orders are charged at a flat rate of £5.00 for postage & packing.
